Number of Rivals 100 Players Still Chasing: 4 (3 5-Stars, 1 4-Star)
In a week’s time, Jim McElwain has moved the Florida Gators to a school outside of the Top 100 in recruiting, the worst of the Power Five, to having the No. 55 ranked class, and he could be riding a wave of momentum into National Signing Day. After all, there’s still a lot for Florida to gain coming up.
It starts with the fact that Florida is fighting with Auburn for the top prospect and No. 4 ranked prospect in the country according to rivals. 5-Star defensive end Byron Cowart is generating as much hype as Jadeveon Clowney did a few years ago coming out of high school, and he is the first guy down to Florida and Auburn. Following him, 5-star offensive tackle Martez Ivey is down to those two schools as well. Both players are from Florida, which could be an advantage to the Gators. But in addition to them, Florida could also land 5-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson, who is also another Florida prospect and the Gators would have to beat out Auburn to get.
But with Jefferson they’d also have to beat out Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss. Still, doing that and getting the other two guys would make for possibly the best game-changing week ever in recruiting.
Florida may be out of the running for a Top 10 class, but if McElwain can nail these guys, having a Top 25 class his first year as he gets set for a full year of recruiting will be respectable.
