1. Can the USC Trojans Take Alabama’s No. 1 Spot?

Going into the week of National Signing Day, it seemed inevitable that Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide would come away with the No. 1 spot, even if it was close, and Steve Sarkisian and the USC Trojans would at best hold on to their No. 2 spot.

But with 17 4-stars, that No. 2 ranked class was a pretty deep class, and with no 5-stars on the list but four in play, a good week could have made a huge difference.

That first huge difference came Wednesday, when USC nailed 5-star Porter Gustin. And guess what: Gustin was the one player NOT from Southern California. The other three players are all 5-stars and all seriously considering USC as much as anybody else.

So all of a sudden, the Trojans could take over Alabama’s No. 1 spot. Alabama really only has one player that is of that elite caliber left on its board, and without that, a great day by Sarkisian could put USC in the top spot.

Who would have seen this coming last summer when some USC fans wanted Sarkisian fired before he ever coached a game because he had not yet put together an elite recruiting class? Well, things have certainly come together.

And USC fans get to watch National Signing Day with lots of excitement, knowing that their team already has a great class but also knowing it has a chance to be the top class. Move over Alabama, your empire could be ending.
