Rivals Class Rank: No. 54

Upon Wednesday’s arrival, the Maryland Terrapins already had been a major disappointment in recruiting. Seven out of the Top 10 players in the state, all 4-star recruits, had left to go somewhere else.

By the end of National Signing Day, nine of the Top 10 were gone. Only Adam McLean of North Potomac, Md. stayed, Adam McLean, and only one out of three 4-stars in Washington, D.C., which is basically local, committed to the Terps, Quarvez Boulware.

The Big Ten move was supposed to help Maryland’s chances in recruiting the area, and the assumption was that a decent season their first year would do that. So going 7-6 should have been good enough to do better locally.

Well, it wasn’t, and as a result the Terps have the No. 54 ranked recruiting class, and the future for Randy Edsall does not look bright. After all, the Big Ten was weak this year.

Imagine the next few years with Ohio State and Michigan State staying relevant and Michigan and Penn State on the way back. Simply put, this division is about to get much tougher.

And the Terps took a huge step back Wednesday when you combine that fact with their failures in recruiting.
