3. Virginia Tech Hokies

Frank Beamer and the Hokies started last year off with a great win at Ohio State, but fell flat on their face in after that one and finished with a less than stellar season. That of course speaks to the program Beamer has built and continues to build with a top three ACC recruiting class.

Beamer managed to nab some great defensive players in cornerback Jahque Alleyne, defensive ends Yosuah Nijman and Darius Fullwood, as well as linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. All of whom should be immediate starters with Alleyne, and Nijman holding star potential in my opinion. Alleyne has great size for a corner listed at 6’1” and good quickness, while Nijman is already at 268 lbs to go with a sturdy 6’7” frame that should allow him to be a three down player for defensive coordinator Bud Foster and the Hokies.

Also of note is quarterback recruit Dwayne Lawson, who reminds some of Logan Thomas with his 6’6” frame and big arm. Lawson should immediately push for the starting job due to his immense physical tools allowing the Hokies to add another dimension incumbent starter Michael Brewer does not possess. Lawson has the chance, like Thomas did, to become an NFL prospect, but only time will tell if he does the necessary work.

With that being said excellent work by Frank Beamer, who should have the Hokies back in the running once again behind another stellar defense.
