3. Miami Hurricanes

A problem that began with the National Championship loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl 12 years ago has now spun out of control.

The Miami Hurricanes have managed to recruit great talent. They have managed to put great talent in the NFL. But they somehow seem unable to win with that talent while it is on campus.

Three Top 5 classes, six Top 10 classes, and 12 Top 20 classes should have shown how well this program has recruited over the past 14 years. But since 2002, the Hurricanes have gone 11-2, 9-3, 9-3, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 9-4, 7-6, 6-6, 7-5, 9-4, and 6-7.

That is a huge regression, and in fact, the Hurricanes have not finished a season ranked since 2009 and have not had a Top 10 team since 2003. This has been a terrible run despite still having great recruiting classes, so the trend from Larry Coker to Randy Shannon to Al Golden has not changed.

Winning has not followed recruiting.

But hey, this past year Golden had a recruiting class outside of the Top 25. Maybe, in a dose of irony, the Canes will win with that. But it is unlikely.
