And the best quarterback recruit in the ACC belongs to Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer. Lawson has very good size for the position coming out of high school with a big frame and solid weight already. As usual Lawson could add weight, and most likely will finish his college career around 230 lbs with the proper diet.

Lawson possesses a number of comparable traits to former Hokie and current Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback Logan Thomas, who Beamer was never able to fix at the position. However in my opinion Lawson is further along mechanically than Thomas was at this point, and Thomas had a much better deep ball.

Another thing that is great about Lawson is he has shown an ability to read defenses, and unlike most quarterbacks with his physical profile sticks in the pocket until the last minute, with scrambling clearly his second option. However his scrambling ability is a viable option as he has decent speed and deceptively quick in games.

Lawson has decent accuracy on his throws right now and I can see him being a high draft pick in the NFL by his third season depending on his conditioning habits and desire to get better.

It seems rare in this day and age to have the best prospect at the most important position go to a school not named Miami or Clemson or Florida State, but Frank Beamer finally has a quarterback that he can win with, and with that defense that Bud Foster runs, it won’t take much.

Look for Lawson to displace Brewer if he puts the work in this spring.
