7. 2005 Tennessee Volunteers Recruiting Class

Rivals Class Rank: No. 4

As this post will show, the Tennessee Volunteers have been the kings of busted recruiting classes since the Rivals area. It brought Phil Fulmer down, and Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley did no better. In all honesty, every class that was a Top 10 class for the Vols, and there were six of them before Butch Jones’s arrival, were all complete busts.

In this class, the only 5-star in the program was Demetrice Morley. Although he played nice in 2006 in 2008, he was kicked out of the program in 2007, came back, and then was kicked off again. That was a waste. Then came a bunch of 4-star busts, including Todd Cox, the dreaded Jonathan Crompton, Raymond Henderson, Slick Shelley, Chris Scott, Andre Mathis, Malcolm Rawls, Adam Myers-White, and Darius Myers.

LaMarcus Coker was a potential star who also got kicked off the team. Of course, there were still a few good players in this class, including Montario Hardesty, Josh McNeil, Wes Brown, Lucas Taylor, and Rico McCoy, but that is not enough to keep this class from being a bust.

The only reason it’s not higher is there weren’t enough 5-star busts, and some of the busts did contribute somewhat to this class.
