The concerns around Vic Beasley are his power. But if you plug in the tape, you would realize his power does not matter. Beasley is so quick, agile, and smart that he will be a great linebacker in the NFL, and he is also so quick off the snap that he knows how to get leverage.
Those two things will allow him to succeed at the next level regardless of what his bench press is at the NFL Combine, which is the biggest thing people are looking for. Beasley managed to record 12 sacks last year behind his speed and leverage, and while you can measure speed at the Combine, you can’t measure how quick a player jumps off the snap or how good he is at maneuvering his way into the backfield.
Beasley is great at doing both of those things, and he will have no trouble adjusting to the NFL. You can’t measure his intelligence, so even if he flops at the Combine, which is seriously unlikely to happen, there is no reason to pass on this guy.
Vic Beasley has football athleticism.
