The concerns over Randy Gregory are the same as the concerns over Vic Beasley physically. He is perceived as too small for his 6’6″ frame. But even if Gregory proved he could overcome that with a great combine to show how strong and fast he is, it does not make up for the biggest concerns of him on the football field.

Those involve how quick he is at decision making.

Gregory, to be fair, played lots of time hurt, but plug in his tape and you see a guy who appears to get confused a lot and panics a bit rather than going all out. He is always unsure of himself, but he got away with it in the Big Ten because of his speed and how slow the Big Ten West offenses are. Those offenses are a lot faster in the NFL, and Gregory’s speed won’t make up for that.

Picking up 5 sacks on the season is not terrible, but Gregory could have done much better, and he does not look like somebody who just needs to get more physical to make it into the NFL. He needs to get more comfortable simply playing football. As a result, a lot of his success depends on the team that drafts him and the coach that molds him rather than his physical attributes.

Gregory’s tape supersedes anything he might do at the combine.
