Biggest Question: Who will step up in the passing game?

It was a disastrous first year, as expected, for Bob Diaco as head coach of the UCONN Huskies. And as we also expected, this is a program that remains in disarray, where it has been ever since Randy Edsall left for Maryland in 2010.

And with everybody gone from the passing game, this is like a second first year for Diaco, at least on offense. Therefore, the first step has to be reshaping the passing game, and that is crucial this spring.

The optimism behind Chandler Whitmer’s arrival never showed itself, and Tim Boyle never proved him self to be a valuable alternative. That could leave the competition open for the spring, and all three starting receivers are gone as well. Spring practice will be crucial for guys with experience to step up and show themselves.

The defense, running game, and special teams all need work too, but if Diaco is to continue his rebuilding process, getting something in the passing game has to be a top priority in the spring. Obviously, recruiting plays a role in that as well, so we’ll see more in the Fall.

But there is so much to replace that he needs a head start, and spring practice is where that head start can be.
