10. Yale Bulldogs and Princeton Tigers Tied, 1869-1911

For the most part, college football dynasties before the AP Poll era cannot be taken seriously. However, by default, these two have to be on this list. Princeton and Yale have a combined 55 claimed national championships, 28 for Princeton and 27 for Yale, and 49 of them came between these years, 1869 and 1911.

Princeton and Yale both claimed national titles during 11 of these years.

Of course, this is all taken with a grain of salt since the Ivy League dominated all the way up to 1911 anyway and especially before the turn of the 20th century, and many of these championships were won long before football as we know it existed.

Not to mention, the first 10 years of the sport had national champions going 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0, making it little more than what a club sport is today.

However, it still matters because these are the years that laid the groundwork for what football. If these Ivy League elites did not create the earliest forms of competitive rivalries and smack talk that existed during this time, the sport would have never survived.

So the major rivalry between these two schools and their dominance over the college football world drew national interest, which is why the sport is where it is today.

That means these two dynasties, which are identical, have to make their way to the list.
