9. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks
The most glorified stepping stone job in sports history, the Miami RedHawks have a long history of winning and winning big with coaches that always go on to becoming national champions at other places.
The program has fell on drastic times recently, but the history keeps it on this list. Just to provide a quick rundown, the RedHawks have 22 conference championships, 11 undefeated seasons (six of which were perfect), and has produced legendary coaches Earl Blaik, Sid Gillman, Woody Hayes, George Little, Bo Scembechler, and Ara Parseghian.
The RedHawks were the real Miami before the 1980s, and they simply were brilliant at discovering unproven coaches who turned out to be legends.
That, combined with the recent production of Ben Roethlisberger along with the NFL greats Paul Brown and Weeb Ewbank is enough to put the RedHawks on this list. They are another mid-major program with deep history.
Unfortunately, becoming a major program does not appear to be anywhere on the horizon.
