Tennessee Volunteers

And finally, the Tennessee Volunteers, a team who has recruited exceptionally well since the arrival of former Cincinnati head coach, Butch Jones.

Since Butch Jones’ arrival before the 2013 season, the Vols have gone 12-12, while bringing in two straight fifth ranked recruiting classes, per rivals.com. Tennessee has recruited the state of Tennessee excruciatingly well, and after many years in the dark ages of Tennessee football, Butch Jones has brought Tennessee back to national relevancy once again, well, sort of.

Tennessee barely made a bowl game last season, and they failed to do so the season before. However, the word around Knoxville is that they’re destined to win the SEC east this season, but are they wrong?

Tennessee has all the momentum in the SEC east, and after back-to-back stellar recruiting classes, who’s to say they can’t?

Tennessee has lots of young talent, lots. They’re recruiting exceptionally well, but they haven’t won the big games on the field, yet. Contrary to popular belief, a big win over Vanderbilt in Nashville isn’t something to hang your hat on. Tennessee beat all opponents they were supposed to beat in 2014, and they lost to those they typically lose to, not much improvement there.

Tennessee did pull out a big win in Columbia over South Carolina in overtime, but the Gamecocks then went on to barely clip a bowl game.

So, what brings Tennessee fans such a high sense of optimism? Talent, and lots of it.

As I mentioned before, and I’m sure you’ve heard this while driving through Tennessee at some point in the last couple of years, Tennessee is recruiting well, exceptionally well, as they should. Tennessee has lots of talent, and they’re only getting better.

Tennessee needs this spring. They need to get their young talent some experience, and they need to get better this spring as they make a run for an SEC Championship appearance in the next few years.
