The Gators are an obvious choice. Florida is just looking to gain some sort of traction this spring, as they have slipped from the national ranks since Urban Meyer resigned.

Last season, the Gators finished the year, 7-5, with a bowl victory over the East Carolina Pirates. The Gators won the Birmingham Bowl, but that wasn’t enough to save Will Muschamp’s job.

Muschamp coached four seasons with the Gators, and after only averaging seven wins per season, the Gators decided a change needed to be made. Florida hired Jim McElwain from Colorado State, and Muschamp was quickly snatched up by the Auburn Tigers, where he now serves as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator.

McElwain has lots to improve this season. In the past two years combined, Florida has gone 11-13. That’s a far cry from the two National titles in the past decade.

However, despite Florida’s lack of success on the field, recruiting has not budged much since Meyer resigned prior to Muschamp’s arrival. Muschamp averaged the fifth best recruiting class in the nation while in Gainesville, but he didn’t have as much success on the field as Florida would’ve liked.

McElwain has a lot to prove this season. He was successful with Colorado State, but this is the SEC. McElwain’s Gators desperately need to have a great spring to move towards a better result in the Fall.
