Oklahoma Sooners

2014 was a big year of change in the Big 12. Texas barely made a bowl game, TCU and Baylor dominated everyone, and surprisingly, Oklahoma didn’t put forth much push for Big 12 relevancy.

After beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl the year prior, Oklahoma had big plans for 2014, as they were ranked the No. 4 team in the nation at the start of the season. The Sooners, however, did not finish No. 4 in January.

In 2014, the Sooners finished the season with an 8-5 record, with a loss to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, 40-6. That’ll put a damper on your season. Along the way, the Sooners played decent football. They lost a close game to TCU, and they also beat Texas. It doesn’t matter what kind of season Texas is having. That’s a good win for the Sooners.

Then, the bottom fell out. The Sooners then went on to lose a close one to Kansas State, then lost big to the Baylor Bears.

What really killed the Sooners’ season was their heartbreaking overtime loss to instate rival, Oklahoma State. That was the pin in the Oklahoma’s season. I mean, heck, Texas beat Oklahoma State, 28-7.

What happened? Well, teams vary from year to year, but going from number four to, well, losing to Oklahoma State by 21, is a big jump, off a cliff, into the pit of has-beens and wannabes.

Some think Bob Stoops is on the hot seat after a terrible, to Oklahoma standards, season in 2014. Both Stoops and Oklahoma need a big spring to push out of the shadowy pit that was 2014.
