The Nittany Lions brought in a great recruiting class, they return a quarterback who is beginning to recognize his full potential as a five-star recruit out of high school who is now entering his junior year of college, and they have 19 starters returning.

Oh, and their 7-6 record included a 1-point loss to Maryland, a five-point loss to Michigan, a two-point loss to Illinois, and an overtime loss to Ohio State, the eventual national champions.

This extremely young team is going to be deeper, more experienced, more talented, and all-around better this year with a great coach who knows how to win. Analysts likely expect them to improve.

But they should be in the Big Ten Championship conversation.

Are we supposed to just forget after one season what James Franklin did at Vanderbilt? Remember, at the toughest school to win at in all of college football, he went 6-7 his first year and then brought two Top 25 finishes to Nashville. That is beyond impossible.

Yet we want to discount him after a 7-6 season at Penn State. Not gonna happen here.
