The loss to Notre Dame was an insignificant fluke, and LSU could easily be the odds-on favorite to win the SEC West and possibly make the College Football Playoff. This will probably be a powerhouse team, and if it can get any decent quarterback play, be very afraid.
LSU has never needed a superstar quarterback. It has simply needed a quarterback who can be mediocre. That was hard last year, but perhaps Brandon Harris or Anthony Jennings will actually be able to step up and be semi-competent this year.
If they can do that, this is a legitimate national title contender and possibly the national title favorite.

Let’s clear this up. Les Miles’s LSU Tigers will be hyped up this year. But they will not be hyped up to the degree that they need to be.
LSU returns 17 starters, including superstar running back Leonard Fournette, after losing three games last year by a touchdown or less. Okay, so they also got blown out by Arkansas and Auburn. But those things happen to teams that start four freshmen and eight sophomores as they did last year.
