1. 2013: Auburn Tigers Beat Texas A&M Aggies 45-41, Georgia Bulldogs 43-38, and Alabama Crimson Tide 34-28

You couldn’t do one game. The 2013 Auburn Tigers football season is one of the luckiest regular seasons the sport of college football has ever seen.

And every minute of it was exciting.

The Iron Bowl is what we always think of that year, but the epic finish to the Iron Bowl was simply the culmination of what had happened throughout that season.

First came Texas A&M. Auburn scored last in a back and forth shootout for the Tigers to win 45-41. With Texas A&M going down to win the game, though, Auburn got away with a horse collar tackle on Johnny Manziel on a 3rd down that should’ve been called. Here are the highlights from that game.

But that alone wouldn’t have meant anything. Everybody gets lucky.

However, when Auburn went to play Georgia, things got really crazy. In a back and forth game, they were down 38-37 to Georgia and had to convert a 4th and 18 to stay alive.

And they converted on the luckiest Hail Mary pass you could have ever seen.

Now, this was seeming like a team of destiny, and it only added to what made the 2013 Iron Bowl so special against the Rival Alabama Crimson Tide.

In a back and forth game, Auburn benefitted from three missed field goals by Cade Foster of Alabama even though he had gone 11 of 12 on the year up to that point. Then, on a 4th and 1 with a one-score lead in the red zone late in the fourth quarter and a chance to take a two-score lead with a chip shot field goal, Nick Saban decides to go for it. But the undersized Auburn defensive line somehow stops the run play against what was the greatest offensive line in history.

That’s improbable enough.

Then, after Auburn tied it at 28, Alabama went down to set up a game-winning field goal. They actually reviewed to make sure their was one second on the clock on the play before the kick, which is what Alabama fought to have. That fight turned out to benefit Auburn. And as Alabama attempted the game-winning field goal to beat Auburn 31-28, Chris Davis returned the missed field goal for the Tigers down the sideline for a touchdown.

Here is that highlight, including the review to put one second on the clock and the kick itself.

So if you’re keeping score at home, Auburn got away with a horse-collar penalty, a Hail Mary pass that was tipped to convert a 4th and 18, and then returned a missed field goal for a touchdown to win three separate close games.

That’s enough for divine intervention, and everything else that took place in the Iron Bowl only adds to it.

As a result, the 2013 Auburn Tigers overall stand No. 1 when it comes to divine intervention for college football teams.
