10. 2007: Appalachian State Mountaineers Beat Michigan Wolverines 34-32

It was an early-season upset that shocked the world. But the upset alone wasn’t the story.

Michigan’s expectations as the No. 2 ranked team in the country going into the year, having come just one game short of the national championship the year before with everybody back for their senior seasons, were dashed with this game. And it was in the worst way.

After falling behind 28-14, Michigan fought back to take a 32-31 lead with 4:36 left. But two missed two-point conversions on their own were the result of divine intervention. Then, with Michigan getting the ball back, they had a field goal blocked, and with 1:47 left, the Mountaineers had another chance.

After they drove down for the go-ahead field goal, a Hail Mary to Mario Manningham put Michigan in range for another potential game-winning field goal.

Then this happened.

Now, Appalachian State is known for putting emphasis on special teams, and that was clearly the case here, but considering they had two blocked field goals in the final two minutes, stopped two 2-point conversions, and were an FCS school going up on the road against the No. 2 team in the country for a huge upset, there appeared to be the help of a higher power in this game.
