9. 2007: Stanford Cardinal Beat USC Trojans 24-23

This was another upset of epic proportions that took place in 2007.

Stanford entered the game 1-3 and a 41-point underdog on the road against the No. 1 team in the country in Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans.

In the game, there was a missed extra point, an interception returned for a touchdown, and another interception thrown by USC when they had a 23-17 lead and the ball with less than 3 minutes to play.

But the real story was the final drive for Stanford. The Cardinal had to convert a 4th and 20 that was completed right on the line to Richard Sherman. Then they converted a 4th and goal for a touchdown to get the win.

Here are the highlights.

This was the breakout game for first-year coach Jim Harbaugh and the program he was building at the time. Stanford eventually turned into a Pac-12 power, and Harbaugh became the hottest coaching commodity at both levels. But this game started it all.

All of the luck that happened in the game combined with the fact that it is the largest point spread upset in college football history means that this game has to be on the list.
