Malik Zaire wins Notre Dame job, Everett Golson transfers
There’s some trouble in South Bend. After three straight losses to Arizona State, Northwestern, and Louisville, Brian Kelly decided to split the quarterback reps between starter Everett Golson and backup Malik Zaire.
Golson didn’t have a terrible season by any means, but some things needed to be switched up for the Fighting Irish to close out the season with some wins after his turnovers became too much.
Unfortunately, for Golson, Zaire outplayed him and was an integral part in their bowl win over LSU. Zaire is a dual-threat quarterback who is very accurate and has a lot of room to develop as a passer. His confidence will be at an all-time high riding the momentum of the LSU win into spring practice.
Ultimately, with Zaire’s momentum and the doubt growing in Golson’s head, the formula is in place for Zaire to be next up in South Bend and Golson to look for an opportunity elsewhere.
