3. What will the identity of the offense be?
It is no secret that Spurrier, once a quarterback himself, loves to see his quarterbacks sling the ball around. It will be interesting to see if Spurrier maintains that stance next season considering the ongoing quarterback competition.
If the running backs want the ball more, Saturday could give them an opportunity to convince the coaching staff that they can do it. Of course the running backs are also going through a change-up too. Thousand yard rusher Mike Davis has departed leaving the Gamecocks in need of a reliable rusher.
Brandon Wilds is completely capable of being every bit as successful as Davis. Last season Wilds averaged 5.4 yards per carry on his 106 totes.
The more intriguing running back to watch might be David Williams. Williams did not get the ball often last season, but he made the most if it when he did, averaging 5.7 yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries.
Both running backs still need to prove that they are capable of being successful with a higher volume of carries. Saturday will not give them that option, but it will give them a chance to show off their speed and athleticism. A good showing in the scrimmage could go a long way in determining how the offense looks in the fall.
