1. Replacing defensive stalwarts
Last year the Clemson Tigers had one of the best defensive lines in nation last year, along with perhaps the top pass rusher in Vic Beasley.
However, the Tigers lose Beasley, Grady Jarrett and Corey Crawford and will now have a relatively inexperience defensive line. This is usually a strength on the Tigers team, and there is no doubt the replacements have been groomed as Swinney and company continue to mass produce pass rushers.
They do get help in stud freshman recruit Christian Wilkins, who should be able to come in right away and challenge for playing time, while also making an impact in the run game. Despite the fact the Tigers will probably have an above average defensive line this season, there is no doubt it will not match up to last year’s crew.
The thing to look for is how they hold up versus the run, and I think they will be fine if they can do that.
