How is the offensive line performing without All-American Shaq Mason?

This would not seem like a position to worry about. The offensive line returns four of five starters and has lots of experience playing together. And the one guy lost is a guard, the most replaceable position.

But that guard was Shaq Mason, who was an All-American and superstar last year. Losing a major offensive linemen like that in a triple-option system could mess up the whole offense, so finding a replacement is crucial.

Shamire Devine and Nick Brigham appear to be in competition to replace him. Brigham has missed some time during spring practice, so how much he is used on Friday will be a question. But seeing how they both perform could go a long way in determining who the starter in that position is.

And it’s not good enough to see if they simply meet the demands for the position. To keep the offensive line at or above the level it was last year, one of them needs to stand out.

That could be tricky.

But if one of them can fill those big shoes Mason left, literally, then we’re talking about another very good season for this unit.
