Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Spring Game 2015: What to Watch

Who will step up at wide receiver?
It may not seem like anything crucial. After all, a team that runs the triple-option whose quarterback leads the team in rushing and passing does not need wide receivers, does it?
Yes. It does.
Part of the reason for Georgia Tech’s resurgence last year was Justin Thomas’s ability to make clutch throws when needed. It was his passing that clinched the close win against Virginia Tech.
And now, his top two receivers, DeAndre Smelter and Darren Walker, are gone. And this spring game will play a crucial role in helping to determine who fills their spots.
Michael Summers played some last year and looks like the leading candidate to take a starting spot. But there are a few other players in the mix for the other spot.
Ricky Jeune and Antonio Messick are also in the mix.
Any of these guys who make noise in the spring game will likely be a starter in the offense come the Fall. And trust me, they will all be looked at hard. So their connection with Thomas is a big deal.
Could Paul Johnson use all three this season? Will only one see significant action? Or will he go back to two again? This game will help decide that.
