1. Who Will Win The Quarterback Battle?
During the 2014 season, the Longhorns passing attack didn’t pack much punch. Starter Tyrone Swoopes finished towards the bottom of the rankings for starting Big 12 quarterbacks: Swoopes threw for thirteen touchdowns and eleven interceptions, 185 yards per game and a lowly 6.3 yards per attempt. As a result, Texas ranked 90th nationwide in passing offense during 2014.
The anemic passing offense is a reason Longhorn Nation is looking to the spring game to provide some clarity on the quarterback situation. Texas fans will be quite interested on the impact four star recruit and now sophomore Jerrod Heard might have on the race.
If Swoopes shows improvement during the spring game and a greater command of the Longhorns offense, he will lead the Texas offense in 2015. But if Swoopes falters, Heard might just get the call, provided he demonstrates acceptable progress. If neither quarterback distinguishes himself, this battle may go on throughout the summer and Longhorn Nation may be facing two bad choices for quarterback in 2015.
