Reggie Bonnafon is the Frontrunner at Quarterback

This is all assuming Will Gardner does not return in August fully ready to resume the role that he lost last year, but Reggie Bonnafon was a star in the spring game. He already appeared like the frontrunner going in, and all he did was solidify that.

Bonnafon was 15 of 19 for 238 yards and a touchdown in the spring game, and he also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

Getting sacked four times and throwing an interception are two concerning stats, but his dual-threat abilities with Petrino’s coaching is something new we could see this season.

And based on the way Petrino hailed his decision making and his intelligence over the other quarterbacks, all of whom are the more prototypical quarterbacks for his system, the job appears to be Bonnafon’s to lose.

If Bonnafon can use his athletic ability as an extra asset while running the full Petrino offense, he could make serious noise going forward.

To be fair, Bolin looked pretty good when he was playing with the Red team as well, even more efficient than Bonnafon. But Bonnafon was clearly the better decision maker throughout the game and brings in the extra element.

Right now Bonnafon has to focus on holding onto his spot that he clearly kept through the spring.
