The Gray vs. Scarlet Game was Pretty Meaningless
Yes, we are usually not supposed to say this about any spring game, even if it is true. But Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff could not have gone anymore out of their way to make it blatantly clear that this game meant nothing.
The Buckeyes have a competition among three quarterbacks to start in the Fall. Only one played in this game.
They have a potential Heisman trophy candidate at running back in Ezekiel Elliott. He did not pick up any stats in the game.
And of course, Meyer runs a spread offense, but Cardale Jones threw the ball 42 times in a 17-14 defensive struggle.
Spring games often times matter only a bit. This was an extreme case of that. That is not to say that the things we learned are not things to keep an eye on. But it is to say that everything should be taken with not a grain of salt but an ocean of saltwater.
This August will tell us much more about the Buckeyes going into the season, but the coaching staff left us with as many questions as they could leave us with after this year’s spring game.
