The Running Game Was Just OK
A big concern for Texas heading into 2015 is how the running game will fare now that Malcolm Brown is gone and Johnathan Gray is expected to be the featured back. Gray came to Texas as a five-star recruit but has never quite lived up to expectations. Is 2015 the year Gray lives up to his potential and puts together a season to remember, or will it be more of the same?
Well, if Longhorn Nation is looking for an answer to that question, they may need to wait a bit longer. Gray only got two carries for eleven yards in very limited action. The real story in the running game Saturday was sophomore D’Onta Foreman, who carried the rock 11 times for 69 yards, a touchdown, and a very healthy 6.0 yards per carry average.
The second leading rusher in the afternoon was quarterback Tyrone Swoopes, who gained 36 yards on six carries. So, while the book is still out on Johnathan Gray’s prospects for 2015, perhaps a bit of healthy competition from Foreman is just what the senior needs to close out his college career with a bang.
