The Miami Hurricanes obviously had an incredibly disappointing season last year as they tried to develop Brad Kaaya, their inexperienced and ridiculously inconsistent freshman quarterback.

But what helped bring him along and kept him from looking even worse was Ereck Flowers. As an offensive tackle standing at 6’6″ 329 pounds, Flowers will be a perfect guy on the line for the Carolina Panthers as they need to beef up to give Cam Newton some protection.

Newton can be mobile, but it should only be in specific situations, and allowing him to get hit consistently is a problem since he’s the franchise quarterback. Flowers showed in college he can protect.

Flowers’s biggest strength is run-blocking, according to NFL scouts, and his pass protection needs serious work, but blocking for a mobile quarterback like Newton will be a different style. Run blocking can be weighted a little bit more heavily.

So he is a perfect fit in Carolina. Anywhere else could be a question mark.

With him on the line, the Panthers could have a deadly running game once again, Newton could protect himself a little bit better, and they could run the offense they always wanted to run the minute they drafted him.
.
