NFL Draft 2015: Ranking the Top 10 Group of Five Players

His 5’9″ frame and 4.6 40-time could be a drawback for some scouts, but he is a very tough athlete who can move all over the field. As a four-year starter, he is very polished and very familiar with the safety position.
Knowing that, Smith is another sure bet to work out and be productive, kind of like Byron Jones, but he also has an incredibly amazing upside at the same time. That is why he is one of the top two guys who should go in this draft from the Group of Five.

Derron Smith
Safety, Fresno State Bulldogs
Sticking with the Mountain West Conference, the Fresno State Bulldogs have always had a solid college football program as well as a mid-major willing to compete with the top programs in the Power Five. And Derron Smith showed his value at safety against the best competition last year.
Smith was a diamond in the rough in Fresno State’s bad defense last year, and he played all over the field at safety trying to compensate for everybody else’s weaknesses. The result was only one interception but six pass deflections, but he also had 62 solo tackles and was involved in 89 tackles overall. Smith showed his ability to cover any part of the field and also play very physical along the levels of an outside linebacker.
