Anyway, Jones’s performance on the field does count for something, and he did have two interceptions before missing the last half of the season, one of which went 70 yards for a touchdown. He also deflected four other passes.
at 6’1″ 199 pounds, Jones’s frame is what is most to be excited about as a cornerback. He has the size to be able to hang tough with the bigger receivers, but he is not as physical as he needs to be.
Jones is a safe pick that will probably work out well at the next level, which is why he is so highly rated as a Group of Five player. But there are other guys with much more of an upside.

Byron Jones
Cornerback, UCONN Huskies
Byron Jones would be much higher on lots of other people’s lists, but I just do not see it. Don’t get me wrong, he is a very good cornerback. Maybe I’m just finding the other guys ahead of him to be extremely underrated. We’ll get to that later.
Jones is credited for being a very smart and fundamentally sound cornerback, which is obviously a huge deal, but it is hard to judge that completely. Although the AAC is better than other Group of Five conferences, it still isn’t a Power Five conference.
