So he fell to the fifth round. All that has happened is he has become the most valuable player on the best defense in the NFL in the Seattle Seahawks.

Sorry Richard Sherman.

One of the reasons Sherman is so good is that he can be more aggressive because Chancellor is so good at bailing out cornerbacks who get beat. He’s a hard-hitter and a great coverage player with eight interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 30 passes deflected in his career.

And Chancellor barely even played his first year in the league.

Still, Chancellor is now one of the best players in the NFL and a three-time Pro-Bowler. This was a huge steal for the Seahawks, who have clearly won their Super Bowl off of major steals at multiple positions.

Now we get to guys who had all of the tools every NFL Scout dreams of but for no good explanation whatsoever fell to late in the draft. Kam Chancellor is one of those players.

At Virginia Tech he was a superstar at cornerback and safety, showing his versatility, and he led the Hokies to consecutive ACC Championships. But, just like his recruiting profile that made him a three-star on Rivals and a two-star on Scout, Chancellor was not impressive enough to general managers.

So he fell to the fifth round. All that has happened is he has become the most valuable player on the best defense in the NFL in the Seattle Seahawks.
