Preston Smith – Mississippi State
Preston Smith didn’t get selected in the first round because he’s a bit of a ‘tweener. At 6’5” and 271 pounds, that’s too small to play inside, and although he sound like the ideal prospect for 4-3 defensive end, he’s a bit too slow around the edge to be considered a first round talent.
Although he can’t win with speed rushes, Smith can still bend the edge and get to the quarterback. He plays with power and good hand use. Smith can also shed the offensive tackle and make tackles in the running game.
Preston Smith will be valuable as a second round pick, and don’t be surprised if you hear his name called early.
Teams to watch for: Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
