This is a 100 percent bust. Scratch that. It’s a 200 percent bust. Literally, it’s bust times two, maybe bust squared.

Marcus Mariota was already a bad pick for anybody but the Philadelphia Eagles or possibly the San Diego Chargers. But going to the Titans? Not only is that a bad pick. It’s all-time bad.

Ken Whisenhunt’s offensive schemes work best with quarterbacks who are pure drop-back passers and make the right reads. Mariota is the exact opposite.

Seriously, if you read his draft profile from various scouts, the weaknesses they include are inconsistent accuracy, not great footwork, questionable pocket presence, and not great at making reads, going through progressions, or calling audibles. So apparently, the guy’s only weakness is that he can’t play quarterback, but other than that he’s a Top Two pick at quarterback?

It is extremely hard to say that without laughing as hard as possible.

Mariota’s only chance of success in the NFL was to run a spread offense or something similar. Now, he is going to be forced in a pure, pro-style offense under Whisenhunt. This is a terrible match, and he will fail miserably. But if you follow the Tennessee Titans, failure is their middle name at quarterback. This is the franchise that got rid of Vince Young and Matt Hasselbeck because of their belief in Jake Locker. Let’s all laugh hard at that one.

And in two years, we will be laughing at how bad of a pick this is. The Titans could have taken Leonard Williams. They blew it. And they will pay for it for years to come.
. QB (Oregon Ducks). Round 1, Pick 2 (Tennessee Titans). Marcus Mariota. 1. player. 35
