BAD PICK

I am still not seeing all of the hype that was behind Byron Jones. He did not even come across as the best Group of Five cornerback in this year’s draft from some perspectives, and the best experts had him going at highest late in the second round.

So for the Dallas Cowboys to take the UCONN Huskies cornerback in the first round is very questionable. However, to be fair, the Cowboys have spent the past few years drafting players to fill holes they needed filled, no matter where they were. Jones would appear to fit that description.
<div class=. CB (UCONN Huskies). Round 1, Pick 27 (Dallas Cowboys). Byron Jones. 4. player. 123

The only problem is he might not have been even close to the best cornerback available.

Jones’s 4.4 40-time and amazing combine results catapulted him into such a high pick, but his performance on the field does not match that from college. To be fair, he didn’t play the last five games of the year. But he did not show himself to be a huge lockdown corner while on the field. Sure, he was somewhat of a playmaker, but being somewhat of a playmaker and then having a great combine should not elevate you to the first round of the draft.

Maybe I’ll be dead wrong on this one, but it seems like the Cowboys could have shot a heck of a lot higher here.
