2. Michigan Wolverines

There’s old school and then there’s the Michigan Wolverines. No team in the history of college football has more wins than the team playing in Ann Arbor and since 1938 all of them have come with their iconic winged helmet.

The first time the winged helmets were used came against Michigan State on Oct. 1 in 1938 and the Wolverines shutout the Spartans, 14-0. It’s synonymous with Michigan with the men’s hockey team, baseball and softball catchers sporting the same design.

Secondly, besides knowing maize is what Native Americans referred to corn, you know that Michigan’s colors are maize and blue and God help if you call it yellow.
