Duke Blue Devils

Katy Perry-Firework

For decades, the Duke Blue Devils were a basketball program who only had a football program to reap the benefits of being in the ACC. Outside of that, they were nothing in football but a laughingstock that nobody in the world took seriously save for a couple of nice years.

Duke was just a plastic bag, drifting through the wind.

But then David Cutcliffe arrived and showed Duke they could be anything. He ignited the light and let it shine, and now Duke fans have a football program and know that they can be something decent as a small academic school.

Because of this, they are the Firework Katy Perry was addressing directly in the song. Why not use it? “Firework” is an uplifting song that makes everybody happy, and it inspires everybody to be great no matter how down and out they are feeling.

Does that not fit Duke perfectly? Even if they fall off again, they have these years and the Steve Spurrier years to prove that they can play college football and have a chance to be good with the right people in the program.

And a marching band should have no trouble playing this song. In fact, every time Duke scores they could play the song and shoot out fireworks.
