Stanford Cardinal

Jay Z ft. Justin Timberlake-Holy Grail

The Stanford Cardinal have had past success as a football program sporadically, but in Vanderbilt fashion, they accepted struggling significantly at that sport as long as they could strut their academic success. So the unprecedented football success they have achieved from Jim Harbaugh to now David Shaw is not supposed to be enjoyed.

But the Cardinal base can’t help it. The more you taste success, the more you want. And that is exactly what Holy Grail is about.

Jay Z and Justin Timberlake talk about the rough pressures of dealing with fame and having to worry about sacrificing their values, but at the same time, they can’t resist everything that comes with it. In fact, they eat it up.

So altogether, this fight song is a perfect fit for a school becoming a consistent national power. They want to make sure they have that academic value and always strive to have that, but at the same time, major football success is so great that you cannot resist what comes with it, even if there is pressure.

The trumpets could play the parts Justin sings, the saxophones could play the piano part, and the rest of the horns fill out the beat. It would be a perfect fit.
