Breakout Player to Watch: Kelvin Taylor

It feels like no big offensive name has come out of Florida in a while, but Kelvin Taylor could change that this season.

First of all, Taylor is the son of Gator great Fred Taylor. That fact alone will convince most Gator fans that this kid is the real deal. What more proof do you need than this touching clip Kelvin tweeted on Father’s Day, showing him and his father running side by side:

But if that’s not enough, Taylor’s numbers say a lot about his potential as well. In his two years at Florida, he’s totalled 1,073 yards and ten touchdowns. Last season he showed his speed on long-distance plays again hearty SEC opponents, like his 65 yard run against Georgia and 30 yard run against South Carolina. As Florida’s offense as a whole floundered, fans were crying out for Taylor to get more carries.

In February, Bleacher Report also saw Taylor’s potential, stating that Taylor is the ultimate Heisman Trophy sleeper. This spring, Taylor has been hard at work and is hoping for the starting position. Even if he ends up not Florida’s main running back, Taylor will definitely be a player maker and threat when he is on the field.
