10 Best College Football Quarterbacks Who Were NFL Busts
Cary Edmondson/USA TODAY Sports
No. 2: JaMarcus Russell – LSU Tigers
Draft Year/Round: 2007/1st Round (1st overall)
Drafted By: Oakland Raiders
The Raiders had finally done it…they found their quarterback. Al Davis found the guy who would “just win baby” and would proudly trade in his LSU gold and purple to represent the Raider Nation in black and silver. Russell was going to be the ultimate tough guy quarterback in Oakland – so tough he could bring John Madden out of retirement.
What the Raiders got was the Pillsbury Dough Boy in shoulder pads and cleats.
Poor play, rumors of alcohol abuse and constant weight issues plagued Russell for his whole two seasons in the NFL. It was ugly from day one, to the point that even the black hole wouldn’t take Russell as a cheerleader.
