Mississippi State Gets No Respect
Mississippi State won 10 games last year and were ranked No. 1 for a few weeks last year but their historic run last year is being viewed as a fluke by the SEC football media who picked the Bulldogs to finish in last place in the west.
Dak Prescott returns at quarterback but they only have seven total starters returning from last year’s team that played in the Orange Bowl. Head coach Dan Mullen was quick to point out a number of players on last year’s team played starter’s minutes even though they technically weren’t starters but preseason polls don’t mean much to Prescott.
“I think y’all had us seventh last year,” Prescott said. “We don’t care. We’re just going to grow as a team. That just allows that chip on our shoulder to grow.
Mullen shared similar sentiments and is used to the disrespect in his seventh year at Mississippi State.
“This is my seventh year coming here, and I think all seven years they’ve pretty much picked us to finish last in the West. It’s kind of like a tradition, I guess,” Mullen said. “We don’t really worry much about that. I’m much more concerned with how we finish.”
Mississippi State didn’t finish strong last year with losses to Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech in their final four games.
