SEC Media is Drunk

The media continued a 23-year tradition at the end of the four-day event when they submitted their predicted order of finish for the west and east divisions and who they have winning the SEC Championship Game.

More often the media is wrong, and understandably so when predictions are made in mid-July for football games played at the end of November and first weekend in December. It’s football and more changes from week-to-week than any other sport.

But they don’t get the benefit of the doubt this year when they picked Georgia to win the east over Tennessee, which is perfectly valid, but they picked Alabama to win the west and Auburn to win the championship.

The cumulative results from the vote and the number of points assigned for first-place votes versus second and third-place is the reason for the split vote, which was the first time this has happened in 23 years.

But don’t celebrate Auburn fans, only five times has the media successfully predicted the conference champions, including Alabama last year, so the chances they’re correct two years in a row would go against the odds.

Full disclosure: I didn’t get a vote as I was not present, but I have Alabama and Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
