Big 12 – Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma consistently seems to come in as one of the highest-ranked preseason teams who fizzles and disappears into the November sunset. True, they have a quality program and recruit well, and the Red River Rivalry is one of the best in college football, but these fans are barking at shadows of the past.

  • Oklahoma went 8-5 in 2014 despite a No. 4 preseason ranking, suffering a blowout loss to Baylor, and dropping games to Oklahoma State, TCU, Kansas State and Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl. There was a similar feeling to 2012, when the Sooners opened as the No. 4 team, finishing 10-3 and ranked 15th, and then again in 2011 when they were the preseason No. 1 team and finished 10-3 sitting at No. 16.

But Sooners fans drone on each season how they are the team to beat in the Big 12 and that the game with Texas will be a deciding factor in the conference championship. Truthfully, that game hasn’t meant much outside of Austin and Norman in some time.

2015 may be a rare time that Bob Stoops suffers two single-digit win seasons in a row since coming to Oklahoma.
