1930s & `50s Throwbacks, Worn in 2009

Colorado has often had great uniforms, and they got even better with a rebranding over the winter. One of the best new looks features a silver helmet, though it’s important to note that this isn’t a bandwagon-jumping situation for the Buffs. Silver and gray may be hot colors right now for alternate uniforms across the country, but it’s been a school color in Boulder since at least the 1950s – as shown by the throwback uniforms the team wore in 2009 against Wyoming.

You don’t see sports teams mix silver and gold often these days, but the Buffs looked good in their “Legacy Day” throwbacks. The silver helmet featured black buffalo horns, a unique feature but not unlike the school’s in-state rival Colorado State Rams. Interestingly, the school decided to blend two different eras during the throwback game: the helmet dates back to 1956.
