Who: 5-Star DT Dexter Lawrence

  • Hometown/High School: Wake Forest, NC /Wake Forest
  • Rankings: No. 4 overall, No. 2 DT, No. 1 N.C.

Lawrence will make a big impact wherever he goes. He is the type of player that gets inside the dirty areas where he fights for position in the trenches, and uses his 6-foot-5, 310-pound frame to make his presence known on the field.

My prediction is that he will go to Florida and join Jim McElwain and his staff. However, it is worth noting that North Carolina has been very involved in Lawrence’s recruitment. He unofficially visited the program for the first time in  back in November, and attended North Carolina’s Junior Day  on January 24.

He had a tremendous 2014 campaign for Wake Forest High School as he notched 55 tackles, 25 of those for a loss and an impressive 10 sacks, showing that he truly was a man among boys on the gridiron. As a rebuilding program, he would be a tremendous asset to the Gators’ front seven, and he would give the presence of a run-stuffer and someone who can clog the middle and in effect, minimize the opponent’s run game. Having a player like that in the SEC who can play a physical run-stopping type of game is a tremendous asset, especially if a program has solid coverage corners on the back end.

Currently, the Gators ’16 class ranks No. 14 in the country and No. 5  in the SEC with zero five-star commitments. Lawrence would be the first, and the first defensive tackle in the class. Landing a commitment from him would solidify the Gator defense.
