Who: 5-Star DE Oluwole Betiku

  • Hometown/High School: Gardena, CA /Junipero Serra
  • Rankings: No. 19 overall, No. 1 weak-side DE, and No. 2 in CA

Betiku is another defensive player with tremendous tools. He has the speed of a running back while also being able to maintain his strength. He is particularly effective when he comes off the edge as he is able to overpower his man and use his hands to get free and begin his pursuit of the ball.

He was a key piece of Junipero Serra’s defensive attack as he totaled 59 tackles, 24 of those for a loss and 11.5 sacks in 2014. In addition, he tallied two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

The two programs that are in the running for Betiku are UCLA and USC. The Trojans extended an offer to him on December 7, while the Bruins have yet to do so. However, the Bruins did make his top six teams which he announced on May 29.

My prediction is that he will join the Trojans. He could give them a nice pass-rushing threat as well as someone who can clog up the rushing lanes and seal off any holes created by the offensive lineman. If he were to join the program, he would be part of a class that ranks No. 5 in the country and No. 1 in the Pac-12 per the 247Sports Team Rankings. He would join outside linebacker Mique Juarez as the other five-star recruit in the class.

His high school is a pipeline to USC and that will win out in the end.
