BYU has a good defensive line, but the defensive tackle position needs a bit more depth than the end positions do. Since BYU runs a 3-4, not many defensive tackles get to play on the average down anyways, but Mounga should be a contributor in goal line situations and on special teams. In two seasons, Mounga amassed over 100 tackles (104) and forced three fumbles. He should be a pretty complete player for BYU, with both size and speed.

As shown in this recruiting video, he is very good at pursuing players that have passed him, and not giving up on plays. He was rated a three star prospect by ESPN and 247 Sports, and picked the Cougars over Washington, Washington State, Utah and Arizona.

Tevita Mounga

Defensive Tackle, BYU

Tevita Mounga is fresh out of high school from Murrieta, California, and it looks like he’ll be able to fill some of BYU’s needs this year. Although fresh depth charts will be revealed in the coming weeks, Mounga is listed as the number three guy at DT as of June, behind Travis Tuiloma and Kesni Tausina.
