A battle between the warriors from Troy and Sparta would make for a fun non-conference game, even if it’s just to see those sweet Trojan and Spartan helmets clash.

One of the ramifications of the new playoff system is that some of the classic bowl agreements were tossed out the window — like the Rose Bowl’s annual match-up of the Pac-12 and the Big Ten champs. While MSU will welcome the Oregon Ducks to Spartan Stadium in week two of this season and have a series agreement with Arizona State for 2018 and 2019, USC has no Big Ten schools scheduled for future seasons.

With the Trojans rising back to national prominence under head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Spartans likely to continue their recent success under the stable direction of head coach Mark Dantonio, a game between these programs would be one of the best non-conference offerings fans could ask for.

For now, all we can do is hold out for the possibility that these squads meet up at the end of the season in either the College Football Playoff or one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.
