That past production, as well as the overall team success from last season, has the folks in Starkville feeling very optimistic despite the league media predicting a last place finish in the SEC West earlier this summer.

Mississippi State may have the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback in the SEC, but experience is thin elsewhere – and especially on the QB depth chart. Because of his running ability, Prescott takes more hits than the average signal caller. If he doesn’t stay healthy (and remember that he missed two games and didn’t start against Ole Miss in 2013 because of injury), State would be in serious trouble.

Backup Damian Williams has the most experience – he started the Egg Bowl in 2013 and served as the primary backup last year – but indications are that redshirt freshman Nick Fitzgerald will be second on the depth chart and Williams is a candidate to redshirt.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Quarterback, Dak Prescott

Because of his talent, experience and production, Dak Prescott is easily the best quarterback in the SEC entering the 2015 season.

Prescott led the Bulldogs on a magical ride that included ten wins and the school’s first No. 1 ranking in 2014. The dual threat playmaker threw for 3,449 yards and 27 touchdowns and added 986 rushing yards and 14 more scores along the way in what was the best offensive performance in MSU history.
